Atoma diamond sharpening plates made in Japan are very effective in straightening sharpening whetstones. For sharpening knives, they are a little less recommended, because they are a little too "rough". In short, they are designed to repair splinters on knives and they are the "Cadillac" of straightening stones.
Instead of being evenly distributed, diamonds are arranged in clusters, which abrade more aggressively than individual particles. This, coupled with their high tensile strength, results in a surface that cuts quickly, hardly wears out and never needs to be dressed.
The diamonds are mounted on a block of aluminum 10 mm thick. This construction makes the plates durable, rust resistant and very reliable for dressing wet stones.
The # 140 is for quick material removal, for repairing knives; # 400 is suitable for small repairs, dressing wet stones or shaping a primary bevel. All are 75mm wide by 210mm long (approximately 3 "× 8 1/4").
